In the past few months, Environment Victoria has done a great job of raising community awareness about the threat posed to rural Victoria from a massive wave of exploration for coal through its Coalwatch website.
Many Victorians may not be aware that our state is facing the prospect of a major expansion of coal mining and coal seam gas operations in coming years - unless the community gets active now.
The recent victory by the community around Deans Marsh in the Otways shows what is possible when people get organised.
