The Food Co-op
The food co-op is an ethical trader providing affordable, low packaged (bulk) food, fruit and vegetables, health and eco-cleaning products. Our particular emphasis is to provide natural, organic produce that is grown and prepared locally - preferably by small companies and producers.

By purchasing goods through our store you are not only helping yourself but also Friends of the Earth and the environment. The dynamic volunteer roster makes the co-op a fun community centre where skills and knowledge are constantly exchanged.

The Role of the Cooperative

The Food Co-op is run by a collective made up of interested volunteers who make decisions about the future directions of the co-op and undertake day to day running of the shop. They directly support the co-ordinators who are responsible for overseeing the running of the co-op. They ensure that members have access to skills, information and resources to empower them within the food campaign.

The Food Campaign

The Food Campaign addresses issues related to growing, processing and distributing food. It includes supporting and promoting natural, non-chemical horticulture, reducing packaging and gives support to other groups who wish to set up thier own co-operatives and food buying groups.

Organic and Bio-Dynamic Food

Organic Food is grown without any chemicals, pesticides or additives. Using traditional farming techniques it aims to create healthy plants and soil. The methods used include companion planting to reduce pest infestation, using compost to replace nutrients, rotating crops and using local varieties of species.
