RIDAY JUNE 4, MELBOURNE 5-7PM
CELEBRATE GLOBAL NUCLEAR ABOLITION DAY

ICAN, MAPW, FoE and other partners are marking the eve of the global Nuclear Abolition Day with a special event in Melbourne on Friday 4 June from 5-7pm in the city with drinks after at Bella Union bar.

The event has drawn together artists, musicians and activists, and will begin from 5pm with an evening peace picnic in the Parliamentary Gardens (cnr Nicholson and Albert Sts, in the city) run by FoE’s ACE collective. Vegie burgers and hot chai on sale by donation, music and fun to be had as darkness descends on a cool Melbourne night.

Then, around 6.15 you will be called to a special event outside of the Eastern Hill Fire Station where a performance titled “Who by Fire” will mark Global Abolition Day, set against the iconic Harold Freedman mural, “The Legend of Fire”. The performance will incorporate spoken word and live music from local rap artists and musicians. It will retell the legend of Prometheus, the legend of fire, its consequences and, ultimately, a story of hope.

Following the performance, join us for a drink to warm your toes at the Bella Union Bar at Trades Hall (corner of Lygon and Victoria Streets, Carlton) and preview the short video of the “Who by Fire” performance adapted for web which we will release on Saturday June 5! While you are in the area, take the opportunity to visit the new MAPW office located in Trades Hall!

It promises to be a legendary night so rug up and come along to join the fun!

If you plan to join the event, or have any questions, please email ICAN’s James Norman: james@icanw.org or call our office on 03 9347 4795.
