flooding on the Yea River - what impacts on North South pipe?

The North South pipe is now laid but anti pipe sentiment remains strong in rural Victoria. Melbourne continues to have other options to meet it's water needs - the Goulburn River does not.

Check here for images taken on 27 September by local farmer Jan Beer, showing minor
flooding in the Yea River and over the Yea river wetlands/floodplain
area, where the North-South Pipeline and easement crosses the
wetlands.   The Governments own environmental studies undertaken prior
to construction suggested avoiding such flood prone areas.

The pipeline easement had only been re-instated in the last few weeks, and
the likelihood now is that much of the topsoil, particularly where the
current is strong, has been washed downstream.
