Rally for green jobs & deposit legislation

Friends of the Earth is working with the Boomerang Alliance to organise a campaign  launch in support of recycling jobs this Wednesday February 24.

campaign launch: green jobs & deposit legislation

Many thanks to the hardy souls who made it to Parliament House at 8am to support the launch.

This Wednesday 24 Feb, 8am - 9.30am, at Parliament House in Melbourne. (The 'formal' part of rally with speakers starts at 8.30am).

Friends of the Earth is working with the Boomerang Alliance to organise a rally in support of recycling jobs this coming Wednesday at Parliament House.

This is timed to occur shortly before the release of the Premier's Green Jobs package - which we hope will be a positive program that will drive innovation in green jobs while helping us reduce greenhouse emissions.

We urge the Premier to include container deposit legislation in his green jobs package.

A 10¢ deposit on bottles and cans?
What a great idea!
If Premier Brumby includes a Container Deposit System in his ‘Green Jobs’ policy, it will:
• Create over 600 new recycling jobs
• Invest $30million p.a. via the sustainability fund in recycling and create 600 more jobs
• Inject $200million into the recycling industry —protecting 7,000 jobs in Victoria
• Save ratepayers and councils $15million p.a. in municipal waste costs
• Build 320 new recycling collection centres to collect used computers, TVs & mobile phones.
It’s time for Victoria to invest in Green Jobs.

Please come along on Wednesday morning and show your support  - it's an early start but you can hopefully squeeze it in before work or school.

We have invited the leaders of the political parties to speak and explain their approach to green jobs.

Please bring yourself, your friends, and placards with a green jobs/ recycling theme.

Please network this invitation.

Please ring Friends of the Earth if you'd like to help with the rally - 9419 8700.
