Tullamarine toxic dump closed by community picket

A community picket closed the Transpacific Cleanaway's toxic dump in Tullamarine for an hour today, in preparation for an on-going picket that starts monday 25 May.

The EPA has licensed a 1.2 metre cap for the toxic dump at Tullamarine after the dump was closed. Work on the cap is expected to begin this month.

The site continues to leak into groundwater and has polluted Moonee Ponds Creek.

The local community group have been calling for a much better cap, of the same standard as the one planned for Nowingi in north west Victoria in 2006. To push this point, they called a  community picket today, saturday 23 May, and the residents and supporters decided to block trucks until midday.

An open ended picket will start at the site from 8am on monday May 25. The community would greatly appreciate your suppoort.

Western Avenue, Tullamarine.
