RICH LAND, WASTE LAND

How coal is killing Australia

For nearly a year Sharyn Munro travelled through rural
Australia, visiting the communities in the coal-mining areas. She found a
war zone.
Here, ‘at the coalface’, towns and districts are
dying — homeowners and farmers forced out by mining, broken in spirit
and in health, or else under threat, in limbo and battling the might of
the multinationals. Incidences of asthma, cancers and heart attacks show
alarming spikes in communities close to coal mines and coal power
stations, yet the government seems powerless (or unwilling) to act.

'Rich land, waste land' is a result of these travels.

She is doing a series of book launches in regional Victoria. Deatils below.

PREVIOUS EVENTS

Info night on CSG, Sept 16

Forrest Hall

Otway Ranges Climate Action (ORCA) and a group of very concerned
residents in Forrest are organising an information session on Coal Seam
Gas Extraction: what it is; the dangers; landowners legal rights; and
other issues.

This Information Session will be held on Friday 16 September at the
Forrest Public Hall at 7.00 pm. So come along if you are even the
slightest bit concerned about the implications of this sort of mining
happening in our region.

Our water and farmland are precious resources, which can’t be replaced if
damaged. Our lives depend on both.

(a FoE campaigner will be speaking at this event)
